Cool Air Humidifier

When it comes to the cool air humidifier it is one that parents will truly love to put into their newborn or child’s room. Sometimes the cool air humidifier will be referred to as a vaporizer but it is usually always referred to as a cold air or a cool air humidifier. The reason that parents love it so much is that there is an instant mist, no danger of the child getting burned unlike the warm air humidifiers since the water boils and puts out a very hot steam.

The one thing to keep in mind is with all humidifiers and it is no different with the cool air humidifier they require that there is regular cleaning and sanitization. The reason for this is that through the regular cleaning and sanitization mold and mildew growth is stopped.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) personally recommends that the cool air humidifier unit be sanitized regularly while it’s in use and then a seasonal cleaning done prior to storing it for the news year to be sure that any potential health or indoor air quality issues are minimized.

Regular Cleaning

The following will help you with the cleaning of your cool air humidifier both during the season and for your seasonal cleaning before putting it away.

The first thing you want to do is unplug your cool air humidifier and then take it to the sink and remove any water that is remaining in the tank. Make sure that you clean the tank completely inside and out. On the inside surfaces of the humidifier you’ll want to use a scrubber but make sure that it is a non-scratch one. With that you’ll want to use the cleaner and disinfectant that is recommended by the manufacturer.

Next you’re going to want to clean the tank and the other surfaces using hydrogen peroxide (if for some reason you don’t know the cleaner recommended by the manufacturer) and a new sponge.

If there is any mineral or a white scale buildup you’ll want to remove that through using a scrubber. You can also get the cleaning done by soaking the tank in white vinegar and water solution. You’ll want to leave it to soak for 20-30 minutes in order to make sure the scale is removed.

Rinse the tank out multiple times with just regular water and let it dry thoroughly. When you refill the humidifier do so by using distilled water.

Seasonal Cleaning

For your seasonal cleaning you’ll empty and clean the humidifier and tank just like you would be with regular cleaning. Scrub off any of the mineral deposits from the tank and both the inside and outside of any of the humidifier surfaces.

Next you’ll remove the cover for the humidifier filter and remove the filter. Check the filter and if it is dirty replace it with a new filter.

Finally you’ll put the cover back on and then wipe the exterior of the humidifier with a recommended cleaner and if you’re not sure or don’t have it you can use hydrogen peroxide. Make sure that you rinse and dry the tank completely and use a hair dryer to remove any of the residual moisture before putting the cool air humidifier away.
